today, my bike arrived. fresh from the box me and joseph worked to assemble the ''80%'' already completed bmx. 7 spanners, 4 alan keys, 3 screwdrivers, a lid-full o' cooking oil and 2 hours later the metallic masterpiece was ready (though the tires were still a tad on the squishy side).
We set off for a little ride round our east london neighbourhood and began to find ourselves heading deeper and deeper into the city. jumping redlights and pulling out infront of angry bus drivers and swearing motorists we cruised through london. we found ourselves at oxford circus after riding for roughly an hour and a half. unsure of what to do we took turns manning the cycles and purchasing various snacks and beverages from inviting offies, as well as perusing around the fave outlets. we thought it best if we started heading home, in the knowlegde of the quest ahead of us we were unsure how to get there. we assured oursleves that as we got to the west end unnaided surely we'd be able to get back to the ends in one piece.
dodging buses near chancery lane i slowed down though joseph 'mr no-brakes' (i'm yet to reach that calibre of bmx riding) didn't see this manuva fit. he was behind and instead of swerving past in a stylish fashion yelled ''speed up!'' roughly 0.23 seconds before impact. my bike wobbled as he made contact and toppled to the ground in the middle of a busy london road 'shit' i thought 'this could be bad'. god however seemed to be on our side and decided not to place any speeding cars behind this clumsy pair of riders. joe survived with a few cuts and bruises on his hands and arms etcetera though the feeling of guilt remained in me...
anyway we navigated out of central london and back toward our home. fatigue was really kicking in for me, new in the biking department, though i pulled through and we stumbled through the front door a mere four hours after departing. peanut butter on toast and water all round.
